Environmental Advocacy Fellows Program

We support legal and research fellows to work on a mutually developed project that will build community sustainability and advance the equity of marginalized communities. Fellows undertake challenging, intersectional sustainability projects that are designed to create an immediate impact, offer an extraordinary learning experience, and foster meaningful collaboration.

What the Fellows are saying

Catherine Sautter

The up-and-coming People’s Economic and Environmental Resiliency (P.E.E.R.) Group in Miami has an innate passion for fighting inequity and the climate crisis. Working on the Just Transition team at P.E.E.R. Group, my colleagues and I researched energy burdens within Miami-Dade County and found data that supported our thesis: that inefficient, expensive energy burdens disproportionately affect minority populations. P.E.E.R. gave us the opportunity to advocate for marginalized housing at Miami's city council. It was an exciting process to learn, research, and compose a significant argument against Florida Power and Lighting who intended to increase their monetary power at the cost of our community. P.E.E.R. helps me believe that change and impact is achievable through teamwork, leadership, and organization. Working with P.E.E.R. has driven me to pursue a career in Environmental and Human Rights Law. I am grateful for P.E.E.R.'s internship program that allowed me to work with such kind, powerful, and inspiring lawyers who impacted my career and life immensely.

It has been a great summer serving as a law clerk with People's Economic & Environmental Resiliency Group!

The hands on experience I have acquired working under Theresa Pinto, Esq., MS has been invaluable and has greatly expanded my understanding of the law both academically and practically.

Matt Ellis-Ramirez

It has been an incredible experience! I have truly enjoyed getting the opportunity to support such crucial work and to be able to gain hands on legal experience as an undergraduate student. It has been inspiring to see the intersectional projects that the P.E.E.R group takes on and the collaborative way they bring about change.
