Litigation is one tool used in a community lawyering approach. While often a measure of last resort, impact litigation can be a powerful advocate for environmental and civil rights. Below are a selection of cases our attorneys have supported.
The Dunbar Community
In Miller v. City of Ft. Myers (2018), residents of the historic Black community of Dunbar challenged the city of Ft. Myers for maintaining an open dump in the middle of their residential neighborhood for over fifty years with waste from a water treatment plant.
FPL Rate Case
In 2021, various groups, including Florida Rising, challenged the Florida Public Service Commission's approval of Florida Power and Light's rate increase, which would disparately impact low-income communities and communities of color.
